Brooklyn

JUNE 19TH, 2011

Had a great weekend. Explored Williamsburg again all day with a good Australian friend who is in town for the weekend before he heads to camp. We went to the Brooklyn brewery in hopes(hops?) of scoring some free booze. Not only was the beer no longer free, but this place has since turned into a tourist trap. The Brooklyn brewery was very unlike the Philadelphia “Yards” Brewery located in Fishtown. All the beer you could drink on your tour. There was only a total of like 15 people there at a time too. Good memories. Besides that there was a gigantic street fair running the span of Bedford avenue. To top it off, the L train was only running between Union Square and the first stop on the Brooklyn line (Bedford) Since we were coming from the Upper West Side, taking the C train to 14th street, and what seemed to be a never ending horrible bus transfer to Union Square. All in all, it must have taken us 2 and a half hours to get into Brooklyn. Only to find that the Brooklyn Brewery was nothing we expected. We ended up going to this cool industrially converted bar called The Gutter. Tons of beer on tap, a great skylit environment, and you can bowl in there room that is connected to the bar for like $7. On the way back we made a stop to Union square, got some more cheap beer (Whole Foods) and then some cheap pizza( 2 Brothers Pizza) for a $1 a slice. All day everyday, if you can stand the slight taste of cardboard and grease. Later in the night we ended up taking the Staten Island Ferry with Madeline. It ended up being a total pain in the ass, considering we spent somewhere closer to an hour and a half waiting for our boat. On the way back it was another 45 minute wait. I think we still enjoyed it anyways. What a long day. Looking forward to this week. Only in Manhattan for another 11 days! Until we are moving to East Williamsburg. I am not packed at all…
